Dutch Point Credit Union Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Occasion is marked by speeches, awards, gratitude, and many celebrants

WETHERSFIELD, CT (October 28, 2010) – Dutch Point Credit Union celebrated their 50th anniversary Wednesday, October 27th at their Main Office in Wethersfield, Conn. More than 90 people attended, including members of the Connecticut State Banking Department and Wethersfield Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor of Wethersfield, many DPCU business associates, other Connecticut credit union staff as well as DPCU Board of Directors and staff.

Dutch Point Credit Union was originally established as a single-sponsor credit union for the Hartford Electric Light Company, now known as Northeast Utilities. Today they are a community credit union serving residents of Hartford, Middlesex, New Haven, and New London Counties.

“When our expansion to a community charter was approved back in 2004,” stated Francis Proto, DPCU President and CEO, “one thing became apparent. We needed to step up and begin to play a more significant role within the communities we were going to serve. As a result, we established a number of community initiatives. Our ‘Read to Achieve’ commitment was aimed at fighting illiteracy, with our primary focus improving on child literacy. We partnered with the Greater Hartford Literacy Council and the Literacy Volunteers of Central CT to support this most important cause. We also established the Dorothy J. Sullivan Scholarship Fund, which provides five annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors going on to college.”

“With that said,” Proto continued, “tonight we are reaching out with a $5,000 donation for Channel 3 Kids Camp to kick off our new partnership.” He further stated, “I am proud to present this check which is a contribution from both the credit union and the entire DPCU staff.”
