Dorothy J. Sullivan Scholarship Winners Announced

Area Scholars Excel in Classroom and Community - At a special scholarship ceremony held Wednesday, June 2nd, at Dutch Point Credit Union’s main office in Wethersfield, five local high school students were announced as the winners and were presented with their $1,000 DJS Scholarship check. This was the third year of the Dorothy J. Sullivan Scholarship Program, which was created to honor the achievements of Dorothy J. Sullivan, the credit union’s past President and CEO and first employee, and to address the credit union’s desire to return greater value and provide financial assistance to high school students pursuing a further education.

The 2010 scholarship winners were:

  • Danielle Charette of Coginchaug Regional High School. Danielle plans to attend Swarthmore College. 
  • Kevin Demers of East Catholic High School. Kevin plans to attend Boston College.
  • Alexandra Giarratano of Glastonbury High School. Alexandra plans to attend the University of Connecticut.
  • Rebecca Paquette of Glastonbury High School. Rebecca plans to attend the University of Connecticut.
  • Lyndsey Shuckerow of Mercy High School. Lyndsey plans to attend Cornell University.

"We were thrilled with the response from the students in our community and their interest in the scholarship program," said Francis Proto, President and CEO. “The scholarship recipients are dedicated and hardworking students and showed great insight into the importance of education to their future."

The scholarships were available to Dutch Point Credit Union members and were awarded based on academic record, leadership qualities and community involvement.  Following the ceremony, the scholarship winners and their families were invited to have refreshments and meet some of the credit union staff and Board of Directors.
