Dutch Point Credit Union takes an active part in giving back to the community and helping those less fortunate. To help carry out community initiatives, credit union employees formed “Dutch Point Alliance”. Dutch Point Alliance is a company-wide effort from all employees to be involved with helping others.

Community Shred Day

Dutch Point Credit Union holds Community Shred Day. Saturday, May 22nd, members and non-members brought up to 5 file size boxes of papers and documents for FREE confidential shredding provided by Shred-it. Over 350 people took advantage of this service. Members were grateful to have the opportuntiy to safely and securely destroy their most confidential records.


Dutch Point Credit Union Donates Dictionaries to the R.J. Kinsella Magnet School 5th Grade Class

Dutch Point Alliance donated $3,000 to the Richard J. Kinsella Magnet School located in Hartford. Part of the donation provided dictionaries to all the 5th grade students, and provided the 2nd grade students with a book a month for the school year. The rest of the funds will be spent on other student initiatives during the school year in 2010.

Dutch Point Takes 5th Grade Class on Field Trip

Dutch Point Credit Union took all the 5th grade students of the Richard J. Kinsella Magnet School, located in Hartford, on a field trip to the Old Wethersfield Ancient Burial Ground. Over 60 students participated. The students learned how to read a grave stone and what the different signs mean. They learned about the meaning of where a grave is placed in the cemetery. Also, a little history was shared about how some of the people died. The students were quite fascinated with the field trip and asked lot's of questions. The Assistant Principal of Kinsella School commented that the field trip was educational and interesting for both the students and herself.

SummerFest

Dutch Point Credit Union's first SummerFest was a big hit with both members and non-members. Over 150 people attended the event. It was a wonderful day -- the weather couldn't have been nicer -- but maybe a little cooler. Everyone had a great time -- people were entertained by a magician and Huggles the Clown made animal ballons as well as did face painting for the kids. The bounce house was a big hit with the kids. And, the credit union's Wheel of Fortune was a hit with the adults -- everyone was a cash prize winner.

New members who opened their account with a $25.00 deposit received a free beach towel.

The SummerFest was quite an event and many members said they look forward to the credit union having more events like this in the future.

Furniture Donatation

Furniture donation made to the M.D. Fox Elementary School in Hartford. Several staff members delivered many tables and chairs to the school. Principal Michael Lorenze was thrilled to get the furnitured and is grateful to the credit union and it's employees for their continued support which benefits all the students at the school.

Special Olympics

The Winter Special Olympics Games, held onsite at CL&P in Simsbury, CT, benefited from Team Alliance when DPCU staff volunteered at their 2009 Winter Games. Credit union employees volunteered as athlete escorts and were assigned individual athletes to escort through the day to their various venues.

Community Event Sponsored by Dutch Point Credit Union - Car Buying Seminar

Members attended a seminar designed to teach them the necessary tools to find and purchase the right car. Jim MacPherson, “The Car Doctor”, covered many topics including how much car you can afford, how to research the cars you find, and how to get your car ready to sell. Members had many questions for “The Car Doctor”. Also at the seminar was Enterprise Car Sales advising members of the benefits of purchasing an Enterprise vehicle. The seminar was the 4th communtiy education seminar that Dutch Point has sponsored and plans to hold more consumer education seminars in the futurer.

Dutch Point Alliance helps families in need during the holidays

Dutch Point Credit Union members and employees donated $500.00 to buy Christmas presents for families who otherwise would have to do without this Holiday season, as well as donated to the credit union's "toys for tots" and food drive. $500 in Christmas gifts, food and toy collection were donated to the Wethersfield Social Services Department. Members and employees made contributions by "purchasing a present", which the donations were matched by the credit union's Dutch Point Alliance fund. "Present" purchases were proudly displayed in the credit union branches.

Christmas Tree Lighting

Dutch Point Credit Union participated in the Wethersfield Annual Christmas Tree lighting held in Old Wethersfield. Dutch Point sponsored this event by providing hot chocolate to the attendees and also helped Santa during the festivities. Dutch Point takes an active part in the Wethersfield Community and was proud to be a part of this annual event.

Dutch Point Holds Community Shred Day

Dutch Point Credit Union hosted a free community shred day for members and non-members on Saturday, December 6th. The event was attended by well over 100 people. Over 3,240 lbs. of documents were shred. This equates to the approximate weight of 4 horses. Many participants commented what a great service this is and look forward to more in the future.

Green Summitt II Energy Fair

Dutch Point Credit Union participated in the Wethersfield Green Summitt II Energy Fair on November 8, 2008. This was the first year the credit union participated. This event showcased many vendors and provided opportunities for the attendees to learn about green technology enhancements, gardening, energy cost reduction strategies, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles, renewable energy sources, and recycling.

Dutch Point showcased 3 energy options available to consumers: Our Save and Pay Certificate, Energy Line of Credit Loan and Go Green Loan. All three of these financial services provide consumers with the opportunity to save, borrow or budget for their energy needs.

Both resident's and members stopped by the credit union's booth to talk about Dutch Point Credit Union's Green Solutions as well as credit union services and membership. Mr. Proto said the event was a huge success. He especially enjoyed meeting the many local residents. Dutch Point has been an established financial services provider in the Wethersfield community for over 45 years and Mr. Proto and the credit union employees take pride and are committed to being a part of the "Green" initiatives.

Career Day is designed to provide students with information on what to expect as they enter the job market and choose a career path. Joanne Rataic, VP Human Resources, of Dutch Point Credit Union provided a brief presentation and overview of the interviewing process for a job. She also provided them with key elements to consider when making a career choice and selecting a place of employment.

Newington Home and Business Showcase

Dutch Point Credit Union participated in the Newington Home and Business Showcase. This was the first year the credit union participated. Many people stopped by the credit union's booth to inquire about credit union services and membership. Erika Zemel, Newington Branch Manager, said the event was a lot of fun and she enjoyed meeting everyone who stopped by. As a new business in the Newington community, she hopes residents of Newington visit our new branch and take advantage of the financial services the credit union offers.

Dutch Point Credit Union participated in the 27th Annual Southeastern Connecticut Home and Business Show. The event was attended by well over 15,000 people. The credit union has been represented at this home and business show for many years and enjoys being a part of the community and meeting everyone.

Each attendee was given a home buyer planning guide. Josephine Gonzalez, Call Center Supervisor, said the session was very informative and believes many people found the seminar to be beneficial in helping them prepare for their home purchase.

Dutch Point Credit Union Donates $4,200 to the Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut

Continuting with its "Read to Achieve" program, on September 17, 2007, Dutch Point donated $4,200 to the Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut. The LVCC provides instruction, assistance and encouragement to adult members of the community who want to improve their skills in reading, writing and speaking English. The donation will be used to support "Parenting for Academic Success" and also to support rejuvinating the Middletown, CT LVCC branch.
